At the end of June, the Yarmouth Summer Celebration Kick-Off will help you start the summer season off right. There is a full week of events including synchronized kite flying, professional sand sculptures, salsa dancing by the sea, a beach run, an Ice Cream “Chill Off”, beach BBQ, fireworks, nature walks and much more.
In the middle of June, check out the annual Taylor Bray Farm Sheep Festival and watch the sheep herding, shearing, wool carding, spinning, rug hooking and felting demonstrations. Every year on Columbus Day weekend, there is the Yarmouth Seaside Festival – an entire weekend celebrating Yarmouth through entertainment, a huge craft fairs, children’s events, canoe, kayak and road races, a beach bonfire, a parade, fireworks, lots of music and more. This is a free event for all to enjoy
Things to do in Yarmouth
There are a variety of water sports to be enjoyed in Yarmouth. Take a canoe, kayak or a motor boat out for a ride along the scenic Bass River. There are also daily 90 minute narrated cruises where you can learn about saltmills, shipwrecks, pirates of the past, and vikings and indians that called the river ‘home’. If you prefer more active sports, you can go kite boarding, parasailing, or jet skiing out on Nantucket Sound.
In Yarmouth you can choose between beaches along Nantucket Sound, Cape Cod Bay or Lewis Bay. Gray’s beach on Cape Cod Bay has a long boardwalk over marshland and a large picnic area with a pavilion – it is great for taking a stroll over the mud flats at low tide. Seagull beach on Nantucket Sound is one of the more popular beaches with full amenities, plenty of parking, clean sand and calm water – great for swimming and sunbathing.
Practice your swing at one of Yarmouth’s Golf Courses, or go for a bike ride along the Cape Cod Rail Trail which is now being extended to Station Avenue. Hike the 2.4 mile Grand Traverse Trail in the Callery-Darling Conservation area or a go for a nature stroll at the Audubon Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary.
