Why own real estate in Eastham
Eastham Homes, Neighborhoods & Communities
When owners of Eastham Real Estate set out for the beach, they can choose between the ocean waves of the National Seashore or the shallower, more peaceful waters of Cape Cod Bay. Or they can swim or fish in the freshwater pond at family-friendly Wiley Park. Owners and visitors alike enjoy watching the sunset over the bay from First Encounter Beach, site of the first meeting between Pilgrims and Indians in 1620.
This quiet scenic town on the Outer Cape has had a rich history since that meeting. It was in Eastham that Henry Beston wrote The Outermost House. The town is also discussed at some length in Henry David Thoreau’s Cape Cod. There are historic buildings scattered throughout town, three small museums, burial grounds and a windmill dating back to the 1680’s.
This rural community is home to the National Seashore Visitor Center, where rangers offer guided nature walks and canoe trips among other activities during the summer. Miles of unspoiled shoreline, forest and marshes are preserved here, providing a unique setting for activities such as hiking, biking, boating, surfing and fishing.
Eastham is just a short drive to shopping, galleries, restaurants and all the performing arts from Provincetown to Hyannis. You can enjoy the small town ambiance but still be close to all the Cape has to offer.
In mid June, the free weekend long Hands on the Arts festival is held on Windmill Green. Participants are given the chance to try their hand at various arts and crafts such as jewelry making, sculpting, printmaking, and Japanese brush painting with professional artists. Live entertainment is provided from a variety of musicians and performers. An arts and crafts show by local artists is also featured.
In mid September, Eastham holds its annual Windmill Weekend. There is a parade, an arts and crafts fair, a sand art contest, antique classic car show, kids games, a road race, photo contest, BBQ, band concerts and other musical entertainment. These events are held at several locations throughout the town, with most taking place at the Windmill Green. Every year one or more Eastham citizens are honored for their dedicated volunteer work.
On most weekends throughout the summer, The Eastham Painters Guild displays fine art paintings by local artists on the grounds of the Schoolhouse Museum across from the National Seashore Visitor Center. Visit this unique museum built in 1869 and learn about the area’s history, then wander outside and enjoy the paintings.
